Uganda Martyrs Day

Today is Uganda Martyrs Day- it celebrates 21 Christians who were killed by Muslims for their beliefs back when Christianity was first introduced in East Africa. There is a beautiful shrine to them and it is a public holiday here. We visited the Bakka village today where the school is and had a wonderful time there- the kids performed for us several songs with excellent drumming by three young men as well. We danced and sang and played a bit of soccer, I got some great pictures of the festivities. We also dropped off the boxes of books and school supplies and boy do they need the stuff. The library was nonexistent previously because books are so expensive here but think how important having books to read is in stimulating young minds to learn and grow. It truly is a blessing - Big Ups and Thanks to everyone who donated books, supplies, money, etc. the school will never be the same! Masseh is doing great, eating well and perking up alot, she was so listless through her illness and treatment that it really scared me. So many young ones here just dont get the proper treatment and just get weaker and weaker until they have nothing left to fight. It is very humbling that the Lord has given us the responsibility to care for our little children- nothing could be worse than seeing your child suffer but nothing brings you closer to the feelings that God Himself must have felt allowing His Son to Atone for our sins and ultimately to give His life to save us all. Spending time in Masseh's home village I cant help but look at every kid her age and pray their lives are preserved through the poverty and disease rampant there and that someone is always there to love and care for them. May our Heavenly Father help us to be better fathers and mothers and treasure the children He has given us....

D, I've been trying to post but not sure the comments have been getting up. That's what a MV education will do for you, I guess — I'm still stuck on an original Apple computer, waiting for the DOS prompt.
Anyway, just wanted to send you our love and support. Hope Masseh continues to improve and we see you both soon.

We haven't been fully in the loop but we are now, and will keep you and Masseh in our prayers. We are grateful she is getting over the malaria--It seems so unjust that she got a tropical disease so shortly before leaving the tropics. You probably don't need grandmotherly or "auntie" advice but here it comes anyway: remember to have her suck on her bottle, a pacifier, candy or gum to keep her ears clear on takeoff and landing. If you can find silly putty over there, it might help entertain on the flight. Love, Aunt Deb and Uncle Norm

D, In situations like starvation and children dying from sickness it's very comforting to understand the gospel. It must be heart breaking so see things like that at all times - tonight Max has a fever and is listless and so tired that he won't even stand up and has a temp of 104. You're right when you make the connection between learning to be Godlike by being parents - we're forced to learn patience, humility and selflessness. Right now I would stay up all night with Max if needed...makes you wonder how often Heavenly Father has watched over each one of us through sickness and pain?!
Hope all is well and that you two rejoin us back on the mainland soon. Keep your chin up bro, sometimes good things happen on fourth and 18. Shane

well wed. was a tough day- no passport though it is promised for thurs am. there was a change made in the court ruling so we'll have to see what the embassy thinks of it when we get the passport and I600 we'll get an appt. asap and go for the visa. it really all needs to happen tomorrow if possible because the embassy only works half days on fri. i know the Lord is with us and at times i feel He is the only one. PLEASE continue to pray for us to accomplish everything we need to in good time and return to our family. Masseh is eating great and had a solid poo today so she is getting stronger by the day-yeah! love to janet, kaya, and all the rest of youse guys!

Hi honey, no visa huh? At least we aren't just waiting for the I600 or it would be especially frustrating. I really really hope it comes tomorrow. If not, take the candy and just go sit in the office and see what happens :) I'm glad the court ruling was changed, I was worried about that being a problem. Let me know what happens tomorrow. We will be praying for you. Love you!!!
